On February 2, 2025, the 67th Annual Grammy Awards took place in Los Angeles, California. They were hosted by Trevor Noah, marking his fifth consecutive year hosting the ceremony. This ceremony occurred recently after the devastation of the fires in Los Angeles, leading to the $24 million raised for LA relief programs and speeches dedicated to those impacted by the fires. With 15.4 million viewers from around the nation, this awards night has maintained its name as “Music’s Biggest Night” and proved to be monumental for many artists.
To start the night, the opening ceremony included performances from numerous nominated artists from different genres. Billie Eilish and Finneas performed their song “Birds of a Feather,” which was nominated for record of the year. Chappell Roan had a noteworthy performance of her hit song “Pink Pony Club,” involving her sitting on a large wooden “pink pony” on stage. Also performed was a tribute to music icon Quincy Wilson, who passed away just months before the award ceremony. Taking part in this tribute were Stevie Wonder, Janelle Monáe, Cynthia Erivo, and Herbie Hancock. Other performers included Benson Boone with “Beautiful Things,” Sabrina Carpenter with “Espresso,” and Doechii, who performed her songs “Catfish” and “Denial Is A River.”
Kendrick Lamar won the most awards, winning in all five categories he was nominated for, including Best Music Video, Best Rap Song, Best Rap Performance, Song of the Year, and Record of the Year, all for his hit song “Not Like Us.” These five awards added to Lamar’s now 22 total wins at the Grammys. This showing segued into his successful halftime show performance at the LIX Super Bowl the following weekend. Beyoncé, the artist with the most Grammy awards ever, with 35 awards, took home

Best Album for her release, Cowboy Carter. Beyoncé was also the first black woman to receive a Grammy award for Best Country Album with Cowboy Carter, and Best Country Duo/Group Performance with her song “II Most Wanted,” featuring Sabrina Carpenter. Also receiving notable recognition was Chappell Roan, who took home Best New Artist. Finally, Doechii’s album Alligator Bites Never Heal claimed the title of Best Rap Album. This award made Doechii the third woman to win this award in Grammy’s history.
While the show was filled with triumphs, it also included let downs for some popular artists that walked away with nothing. Despite her seven nominations, Billie Eilish did not receive any awards for her album Hit Me Hard and Soft and her hit song “Birds of a Feather.” Also not receiving any awards was Taylor Swift, who had six nominations and has won 14 total Grammy awards during her music career. These showings, along with the numerous political statements made regarding the recent election results, have aroused some controversy surrounding the ceremony as a whole. However, in general, the 67th Grammy Awards Night was successful and showed off the work put in by many artists throughout the year.
