The York High School boys basketball team has a chance to win it all on Saturday, March 1st! This team has been absolutely amazing to watch this year, as they’ve gone undefeated throughout the season. They are currently 21 and 0. York was ranked #2 in Class B until Friday, February 21st, when they beat #1, Medomak Valley at the Portland Expo. The score was 50-40. The boys will be heading up to the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland on Saturday to play Caribou. Caribou was ranked #1 in the North, going 20-1 through the season. Now Caribou is driving 6 hours from Northern Maine to compete in the South against our undefeated Wildcats.
There is a buzz around the school about the impending state game and excitement is among the boys basketball team. Junior Parker Beauchesne says, “I am excited for the experience of being there and having a big crowd of fans, and winning.” When asked what motivates the players on the team, junior Reece MacDonald responded “thinking of winning for our coach, Mr Regan, and winning with this team motivates me to play the best I can. Another thing that is so important for us as a team is the bench, and the student section being loud.” Reece MacDonald was awarded the Class B South Regional Tournament MVP, after the regional final game and has been a star player alongside senior center Lukas Bouchard and senior point guard Ryan Cummins. The Wildcats are flush with talent this year such as senior power forward Lucas Ketchum, senior shooting guard Jack Joyce, and senior small forward Alex Taylor. The Wildcats also have a deep bench of athletes like junior point guard Robbie Hanscom and sophomore center Callan Forbes. Providing excellent leadership and quality minutes off the bench is senior Trey Fogg, also helping lead these Wildcats to victory. Make sure you’re there and loud to see the boys win states for the first time in a long time at the Portland Cross Insurance Arena on Saturday, March 1st at 2:45!
