Tyler, the Creator launched his album, Chromakopia, on October 28, 2024. The album is narrated by his mother, Bonita Smith, which adds a personal layer into Tyler’s childhood. Chromakopia dives into Tyler’s upbringing in Hawthorne and Inglewood in LA. Originally, the intention of the album was to explain his experiences not living the suburban life, but the album soon evolved into a collection of memories and life lessons shared by his mother.
The album blends hip hop, R&B, and jazz, resulting in a wide range of songs that reflects his growth as a rapper. It surprisingly features many artists although before the album dropped Tyler claimed there would be no features. There are just a few, such as Daniel Caesar, Doechii, GloRilla, Lil Wayne, and Schoolboy Q, bringing diverse influences into the mix. Tracks like “Judge Judy” and “Rah Tah Tah” portray the style of his second album, Goblin, while the varied genres contribute to the overall listening experience. Overall, Chromakopia captures the essence of Tyler’s journey and the influence his mother had on his life and his music career.
