After a rough 0-2 start to the season, the York Boys Basketball has been on a roll, and they are heading into the tournament in Portland on an unbelievable 13 game winning streak. Thanks to Senior leaders Will Bourgeois, Trevor Parker, and JP Frazier, along with coach Jerry Hill, they have mixed a balanced offensive attack with ferocious defense; this combination of skills has left teams struggling and led to victories over Class A opponents, Greely and Gray-New Gloucester as well as Class B rivals, Cape Elizabeth. All in all, this has propelled the team to a 3rd place finish in Class B South and a prelim win over
Mountain Valley.

Now, however, they head to Portland, where the bigtime opponents are waiting. It appears that their path to the State Championship could involve consecutive games against Cape, Yarmouth, and Spruce Mountain. None of these will be easy, but all will certainly be doable. Senior Logan Bouchard comments, “We’re in the playoffs now and nothing will come easy. We know what we can do, though, and if we just play our game, I think we can compete with anyone.” One of the team’s two losses did come to Yarmouth on opening night, but that was a one point game, and York has shown a lot of improvement since then. This certainly could be anyone’s tournament as we head to Portland next week, but I hope and believe that we will be making the treck to Bangor for the State Championship. York’s mix of size and athleticism will make them hard to beat.
