The winter was an eventful season for the York Wildcats! There were some deep playoff runs, spectacular games, and lots of accolades sent the Wildcats’ way. To start off the recap of winter sports, the boys basketball team, state runners up, will be recognized.
The boys basketball team finished the regular season 18-0 and made it to the Class B state championship where they played Caribou, and fell short in the end 65-44. Lukas Bouchard was named a McDonald’s Senior All-Star and Jack Joyce was named to the McDonald’s Academic All-Star Team. Coach Matt Regan was also named McDonald’s Class B South Coach of the Year after his first season as the York boys coach. The boys basketball team will be losing 7 seniors, Lukas Bouchard, Alex Taylor, Jack Joyce, Lucas Ketchum, Ryan Cummins, Trey Fogg, and manager TJ Reagan. Way to represent York this season!
The girls basketball team also had an exciting season finishing 11-7, which was impressive as they were a young team with only 6 seniors and juniors combined! Sadly they did lose to Oceanside in the quarterfinals. The team welcomed 5 freshmen this season but will be saying goodbye to 3 seniors, Emma Joyce, Ava Fontaine, and manager Lindsay Rivers. Great job this season!
York Boys Hockey had an impressive season finishing 13-5 in the regular season, but lost 7-5 to Leavitt in an exciting quarterfinal game. This team was filled with seniors and will be sad to see them go. These seniors include Maclean Douris, Dylan Jones, Liam Clark, Michael Hanlon, Conor Fell, Brad Carr, Joran Caracoglia, and Shea Buckley. Congratulations on a successful season!
The girls hockey team, which is a combination of schools in the area that play under the York name, had a challenging season, finishing 4-14. That said, they had a tight game in the quarterfinal against Gorham, losing 2-1. The girls hockey team will be losing 4 seniors, including Liza Carolyn from York.
Both girls and boys track teams had impressive seasons, like always, sending many athletes to regionals, states, and even New Englands. At the boys state meet, Jack Estes finished 8th in the 200m Dash, Hayden Atkinson was 5th in the 800m run, Aidan Ring was 2nd in the mile as well as the 2 mile. Charlie Drake was 5th in the 55m hurdles and Will Fagan was 2nd in the shot put. At the girls state meet, Karianna Hulstrom was 7th in the 400m dash, Zoe Carroll finished 5th in the 800m run and 3rd in the mile. Great job this season!
The unified basketball team had a great season as a young team, finishing 3-7. They had 3 freshmen this season, Tyler Ridley, Erin Fell, and Brady Robinson, as well as sophomore Molly Harmon. The Unified Wildcats only had one senior this year, Kendall Clark. Awesome season, and can’t wait for next season!
Although York did not come away with any gold this winter, it was an impressive season. Great job to all the athletes and thank you to the seniors!
