As of the 24-25 school year, York High School made the decision to take away PIE for all students. PIE was a time from 10:25 am to 10:50 am where students had the ability to go to their teachers and get caught up on missed work, get help from their teachers, or hangout with a teacher of their choice.
There were many different reasons for this decision, as well as a variety of opinions on the matter. One of the main reasons was because teachers felt overwhelmed when they would have students signed up, and they wouldn’t show up. Additionally, many students would walk around instead of going to the place they were signed up for, meaning teachers would have to call other teachers and search for them, taking away the provided time for them to help other students. It ended up being too much of a mess, because faculty wouldn’t always know where students were.
Students who used PIE appropriately felt strongly about this vast decision. Taking away PIE caused a lot of students to have to make up work after school, which would take time away from their sports or cause transportation issues. This was a large contributing factor to the students feeling so strongly about this matter.
After many people voiced their opinions on this decision, they have decided to bring back PIE for the rest of the school year. PIE used to occur on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, but they have decided to just bring it back for Wednesdays to see how it goes. Although, once a month is Wellness Wednesday, and PIE will not occur on weeks of Wellness Wednesday. In conclusion, students are now able to sign up for PIE again, once a week on Wednesdays that are not Wellness Wesnesdays!
