The York Wildcats had many impressive postseason runs, but now that their seasons are over, it is time for the fall sports of 2024 recap!
The boys soccer team had a great season going 8-7-1 but fell short in the Class B semifinal game to Yarmouth. They will be graduating 11 seniors this year, and the program thanks them for all their hard work. Robbie Hanscom made First-Team All Conference as well as was named Maine Soccer Coaches Regional All Star. Jack Joyce and Quinn Walenta were named to Second-Team All Conference. Great season boys!
The girls soccer team had a battling season and overcame many challenges to secure a playoff spot. They ended up losing to Wells in penalty kicks in the first round of playoffs. The girls went 4-10-1 and will be losing 7 seniors. Scarlett Ring, a junior, was named to the Class B All-Star Regional Team and First-Team All Conference. Chloe Deluca was named to Second-Team All Conference. Thank you to the seniors and congratulations on a memorable season for girls soccer!
Field hockey at York has always been competitive and this year they had an amazing season. The girls went 5-7, losing to Freeport, 2-1, in the Class B semifinal game. The team will be graduating 7 seniors who have meant a lot to the program. Two of them, Emma Joyce and Sophia Luchette, were named to Second-Team All Conference, and juniors Bella Santini and Nya Avery were named to First-Team All Conference. Thank you seniors and great job this season field hockey!
York volleyball had an amazing run this season, becoming runners-up at the Class B State Championship. They went 13-3 this season and just fell short to Washington Academy in the state game 3-1. They will be without their 8 seniors next year but hopefully will be just as competitive. Captains Brooke Roe and Bella Parrotta were named to First-Team All Conference this year and Lauren Chagnon was named to Second-Team. Maya Babcock and Makayla Zietala were honorable mentions. Great season ladies and congrats on making it to the state championship!
York Golf graduated two athletes this year, Ryan Cummins and TJ Reagan. Both of them made it to the state match this year and competed well. Their best match this season was against Cape Elizabeth where they won 170-169. Thank you to Ryan and TJ, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for YHS golf!
York Girls cross country had only one senior this season, captain, Audrey Drennan. The team placed third at the state meet, with junior Zoe Carroll winning the meet. She also went on to run at the New England Championship meet where she placed 6th! Zoe also was named to First-Team All Conference. Congratulations to Zoe and the whole girls cross country team on an impressive season!
The boys cross country team did equally well this season as they tied for second at the state meet. Aidan Ring, one of their 4 seniors, placed second at the state meet and 30th at New Englands. He also made First-Team All Conference. Hayden Atkinson also placed seventh at the state meet. The boys had a great season and thank you to the seniors!
YHS football had a great season making it all the way to the regional semifinal where they lost in a tough game to Fryeburg Academy. The boys went 3-6 this year and got to host a home playoff game. The team will be saying goodbye to 6 seniors, who were impactful people on the team. Thank you to the football seniors and good job this season!
That concludes this fall sports recap! Since the seasons just ended, some all conference recognitions have yet to be announced, so sorry to those who did not receive an acknowledgement. In conclusion, this fall has been a memorable one at YHS. From the crazy playoff haircuts to the electric student section, know one does sports quite like York. Go Wildcats!
