The York Public Library holds a variety of events, ranging in target audience from toddlers to seniors. In addition to their regularly scheduled programs, the YPL is holding several Halloween events this fall. Many of these activities are available to teens, in addition to ‘Teentober’, in an effort to celebrate the teenagers of our community. Teentober is centered around handmade goodie bags, which are available in the teen space or school library, and is limited to teens only.
Creepy Planters: Wednesday, October 23rd at 5:00 pm.
This drop-in activity is available for teens, grades 7th-12th. This event provides an opportunity to create a doll head planter for the halloween season with members of your community. The library will provide supplies, though they are limited.
Family Saturday S’moreytime: Saturday, October 26th at 10:30 am.
This event takes place in the Children’s Room, and is a drop in event as well. The s’moreytime welcomes people of all ages free of charge. In addition to telling campfire stories, they will also be making a smores trail mix for the attendees to enjoy.
Costume Closet: The month of October.
During the halloween season, YPL is welcoming costume donations of all sizes. They request that you bring in gently used, clean costumes with accessories if possible. Regardless of whether you donate a costume or not, you will be able to pick out a gently used costume for Halloween.
Haunted New England Stories with Chistohper Daley: Thursday, October 31st at 5:30 pm.
This event allows its attendees to listen to fascinating stories, mixing facts with myth and legend to create a captivating presentation. It covers the true stories of New England, and the haunts which followed them. Some of the stories addressed at this event include the Lizzie Bordon House, the Mount Washington Hotel, and Mercy Brown. In addition to these upcoming halloween themed happenings, the YPL holds monthly writing groups on the 3rd thursday of each month. The next meeting will be on November 19th. For more information on any of these events, see the library’s website, linked below.
